Edible Seaside Sensory Activity for Toddlers

Welcome back or welcome to my blog! Today I am going to give you a fun Seaside Sensory Activity for you and your babe to enjoy.

In this blog post, we'll explore a fun and edible sensory activity that combines the magic of the ocean with tasty treats. Get ready to dive into a world of textures, flavors, and imagination as we create a sensory play inspired by the beach. Let's get started!

Seaside Sensory Activity for Toddlers Ingredients

  • 2 Packages of Blue Gelatin (jello)

  • Aquatic Animal Toys (we used his bath toys)

  • Crushed Graham Crackers

  • Edible Decor (optional, such as fish-shaped crackers or gummy fish)

  • Container

  1. Prepare the blue gelatin: Using only one package, follow the instructions on the package to create a firm but jiggly blue gelatin mixture. Pour it into a small container leaving some space for the toppings.

  2. Encase aquatic animals: Once the gelatin has cooled and is slightly set but still soft, gently place aquatic animal toys into the gelatin mixture. Position them in different areas to create a fun underwater scene.

  3. Chill and set: Place the container with the gelatin and toys in the freezer and let it set for 25 minutes.

  4. Prepare the second package of blue gelatin. Once the jello has set in the freezer for 25 minutes pour the remaining mixture on top to incase the aquatic animals.

  5. Follow the instructions and use your best judgment for the setting time. Usually, it takes anywhere from 2-4 hours.

  6. Once the gelatin is fully set, remove it from the refrigerator. Create a beachscape by sprinkling crushed graham crackers on top of the blue gelatin, creating an island/beach depending on where your toys sit. You can add a decorative touch by adding fish-shaped crackers or candy as beach-themed accents.

  7. Once your Seaside Sensory activity is made, set up a play area for your little babe. This can get MESSY so make sure it's in a good place. We put an old towel outside on the grass to create a clean and fun area for him.

  8. Let your little one dive into the sensory play! Encourage imaginative play by narrating stories about the ocean and its creatures. Supervise closely to ensure safe play and consumption.

Safety Considerations:

  • Be cautious of any allergies or dietary restrictions your child may have before using certain ingredients.

  • Always supervise your toddler during sensory activities to ensure their safety.

  • Avoid leaving small objects unattended with young children to prevent choking hazards.

Edible sensory activities offer a wonderful way to engage your toddler's senses while providing a safe and enjoyable play experience. Speaking from experience, because of teething there is nothing my baby won't put in his mouth right now. By creating a seaside sensory activity with blue gelatin, aquatic toys, and crushed graham crackers, you'll introduce your little one to a world of textures, flavors, and imaginative play. Enjoy this interactive and delicious sensory adventure with your child, making memories and fostering their cognitive and sensory development. Have a splashing good time!
