Homemade Ice Cream in Under 10 Minutes: A Quick and Easy Baggie Method

To make this speedy ice cream, you'll need the following ingredients:

  • 1 tsp of vanilla extract (or your preferred flavor)

  • 1 cup of half and half

  • 2 tbsp of sugar

  • Ice cubes

  • Ice cream salt (rock salt or kosher salt)

  • Quart-sized ziplock bag

  • Gallon-sized ziplock bag

Let's get started!

Step 1: Prepare the Ice Cream Base

Start by combining the vanilla extract, half and half, and sugar in a quart-sized ziplock bag. Make sure the bag is securely sealed.

Step 2: Create an Ice Bath

Fill the gallon-sized ziplock bag halfway with ice cubes then add about 1/2 cup of ice cream salt to the bag.

Step 3: Place the Ice Cream Base in the Ice Bath

Put the sealed quart-sized ziplock bag containing the ice cream base into the larger ziplock bag with the ice and ice cream salt. Make sure the bag is sealed tightly.

Step 4: Shake It Up!

Hold the bag firmly and shake it for about 5-8 minutes. You can also involve kids or friends in the shaking process, turning it into a fun activity for everyone.

Step 5: Check the Consistency

After a few minutes of shaking, check the consistency of your ice cream. If it's not firm enough continue shaking until you reach the desired texture.

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy

Once the ice cream reaches the right consistency, remove it from the baggie and transfer it to a bowl or cone. Add your favorite toppings or sauces for an extra treat. Now, sit back, relax, and savor the deliciousness of your homemade ice cream!

We had an absolute blast making this ice cream treat with our ten-month-old baby boy. And let me tell you, his face lit up with pure joy as he took his very first bite! We couldn't get him to use a spoon! We had a few toppings to choose from to make it extra special: strawberries, raspberries, and chocolate syrup.

Making homemade ice cream doesn't have to be a time-consuming process. With the baggie method, you can enjoy a delicious frozen treat in under 10 minutes. All you need is a few basic ingredients, some shaking, and a bit of patience. Creating priceless memories and filling your house with laughter is well worth it. So the next time you're in the mood for ice cream, give this method a try. Happy scooping!
