We all know movement is important, but when you’re juggling work, parenting, or just trying to keep the house semi-clean, exercise often falls last on the list. The truth? You don’t need an hour at the gym to care for your body. You just need to learn how to prioritize movement and exercise when life is busy!
Here’s how to realistically prioritize movement in the season you’re in.
Redefine What Counts
Walking the dog. Chasing your toddler. Stretching during nap time. It all adds up. When you stop expecting perfection, movement becomes more accessible.
Prioritize Movement and Exercise to Fit Your Routine When Life is Busy
Don’t try to force 6 a.m. workouts if you’re not a morning person. Look at your week and find small, sustainable pockets. Even 10 minutes makes a difference! I used to try and wake up at 3 a.m. before my husband went to work, and I did NOT prioritize my sleep the way I should have.
Stack It with Something You Already Do
Listen to a podcast while you walk. Do squats while waiting for coffee. Stretch during your favorite show. Habit stacking makes moving second nature. I love using my standing desk and walking pad! Sometimes I'll even walk and watch my shows.
Focus on How It Feels, Not How It Looks
Movement is not punishment. Choose activities that energize, reset, or relieve stress (think: dancing, yoga, walking, gardening, anything goes).
Have a Go-To “Movement Menu”
Create a list of 5-10 simple movement options you enjoy. When you’re low on motivation, pick from the list. No decision fatigue, no excuses.
Movement isn’t about checking off a box, it’s about caring for your body in ways that feel doable. You don’t have to do it all. Just start with one small step.
